Unfortunately Sir Angus has been called away on business and will no longer be able to speak on the evening.  However, the presentation will proceed and be given by Station Sergeant Anderson, who not only was intimately involved in the investigation but has presented with Sir Angus on this topic previously, including at The Asia Pacific Coroners Society Conference.

 

Station Sergeant Rod Anderson APM, joined the Australian Federal Police in 1990 and, after recruit training, was deployed to City Police Station in Canberra where he performed uniform duties as well as working in Communications, Beats and the Accident Investigation Section, investigating serious & fatal motor vehicle collisions.  To date he has held many different roles with the AFP Canberra and its surrounding region.

 

Disaster Victim Identification, or “DVI”, is the method used to identify victims of mass casualty incidents, either man-made or natural.  In July 2014, Station Sergeant Anderson was deployed to the Malaysian Airlines MH17 aircraft crash in the Ukraine, where he performed the role of DVI Forward Commander.  As part of this operation he coordinated the recording, packaging and repatriation of human remains from the Ukraine to the Netherlands.  He then coordinated the site search effort involving Australian, Netherlands and Malaysian police and support resources.  Following the search Phase, Station Sergeant Anderson remained in the position of DVI Forward Commander and oversaw Australia’s DVI operations in the Netherlands.
